Tonight I was ready to sell you both on eBay after an afternoon of tears and tantrums ( you wouldn't guess it from this picture, infact I may show some bloopers latter ) , frazzled and exhausted I was ready to curl into a ball ... but one smile and my heart melts.

Love you both x

Your head is nearing the end of the cradle .. but I am determined to squeeze you in for as long as possible, I am in denial.

You are stretching your 000 clothes , I will soon need to put them away.

You are out of your size small cloth nappies ... the same cloth nappies your sister wore for her entire first year.

You are growing way too fast my gorgeous boy, please slow down, you seem so eager to grow up ... you will have to forgive me, but I am not ready yet .

This is Lily with her Dora Adventure chart that encourages to brush twice a day, now this encouragement is great but what Lily enjoys is counting her stickers.
Apart from the teens which she finds a bit hard, she can now count to forty!

Photo-a-day 2013 : Day 21

She has to stand on tiptoes to wash her hands.
She still comfortably wears size 2 clothes (sometimes 18 months), even though she’s almost three.
She has to strain to reach door handles.
Se has trouble sitting comfortably at the table so that She can see over the top.
She is still small enough to be carried on my hip.
My little girl.

I often find you this way after your Ahhheemm... Nap?? Clothes and shoes everywhere, and very rarely still in the same clothes you went in with.

The last few weeks you have been very excited about the prospect of snow, with our talks about our trip to Japan... I am not sure you fully comprehend, the process of layering for the cold. When I entered your room today you announce " I'm ready for the snow!can we go now?".

Photo-a-day 2013 : Day 14

Photo-a-Day Project: A personal project that I undertake in January for an entire month taking one photo a day of my family.

Today did not start off well, things were hectic, Eli was in desperate need of a sleep, I needed a shower and Lily was pulling at my skirt wanting something to do NOW. Thankfully I had a little light bulb moment when I saw a sheet in the washing basket. Throwing the sheet over the table I instantly created a cubby house / imagination station for miss Lily. A few blankets some toys and books and I knew I would have some time up my sleeve to get Eli to sleep and jump in the shower.

A mere ten minutes latter and Eli was back awake, but I had had my shower, Eli was no longer upset and Lily was happy... crisis averted, sanity was mine for another day.

With your tongue out to help propel yourself forward, or perhaps to detect true north? you did it! You rode your bike solo for the very first time.

When Daddy asked you what you would tell Santa for Christmas you replied  " I want a treat " what else? asked dad " A tinkerbell bike and helmet !!!!
Now Santa and I are pretty close, and we had not planned on this reply, but it turns out that the elves at Big W had an extra one just for you, and we are so very happy that they did, because your smiles on Christmas day were priceless.

Eli's first pair of shoes

Lilys Baby: It is part of Lily's nighttime bath ritual to put 'baby' to bed, she gets a nappy, wrap and multiple blankets  ( all made from wet washers ) to keep her cozy and comfortable.

1, 2 , 3 I count you and your new best friend run and hide .
4, 5 Natalie crosses the park in twice the speed, despite your little legs going as fast as they can.
6, 7 , 8 You huddle together in plain view, against the hedge, Natalie with her hands over her eyes and you with a protective arm / invisible cloak around Natalie.
9, 10 Here I  come!!! ...... Giggles.
I take my time... could they be over here? Could they be over there? Are they up the tree? Where Oh where could they be?
Lily!!! Natalie!!! Where are you ? back comes the half expected reply ... Here!

I smiled with pride as I watched her build this tower completely by herself, I smiled again when I realised her height could still easily be measured against a bucket of mega blocks.

He is completely adored  by his big sister who likes to smell him, almost in an effort to breath in his baby goodness, not so unlike many mothers behind closed doors....or is that just me?

The love Lily has for her brother is not one sided, Eli instantly cheers up when Lily is near him, and is comforted by her voice.

Photo-a-Day Project: A personal project that I undertake in January for an entire month taking one photo a day of my family.

With high temperatures across the country we spent the day playing in the pool with her beloved 'Fla-wing-go', who would have thought a plastic inflatable drink holder could invoke such affections? This little bird got the deluxe rub down after a swim as according to Lily he was too cold and needed a towel, when we asked Lily if she was cold, of course the reply was no despite the chattering teeth.

Photo-a-day 2013 : Day 4

Photo-a-Day Project: A personal project that I undertake in January for an entire month taking one photo a day of my family.

In celebration of Eli recently turning three months old I decided it was time for a family portrait , even if I had to take it myself!!
Now a self portrait, family photo is no small task for me, as my camera does not have a multiple shot self timer so it involves me running back and forth like a mad woman and trying to place myself in the shot without looking frazzled.
It also involves pumping up the ISO and depth of field more than I typically would be happy with to be sure I get the shot.
Despite the quality not being perfect, this is us, captured forever as a family in January 2013!

Photo-a-day 2013 : Day 3

Photo-a-Day Project: A personal project that I undertake in January for an entire month taking one photo a day of my family.

Learning to sew: I was attempting to sew up a bonnet as a prop for an upcoming session , when Miss Lily decided she would 'help' . After about 2 minutes, it became obvious that continuing to do what I was doing was a lost cause, so I decided to take extend on her interest and do some sewing practice.

If you have a little one that you think will enjoy this, I have outlined what we did below.

CRAFT ACTIVITY

* Large blunt tapestry needle
* A piece of  paper or card
* Pencil
* Thick thread

Simply draw a simple picture ( something that your child is interested in ) on your piece of paper , then use the needle to pierce holes around the outline of the image.
Thread the needle and you are ready to begin .
To start you will need to hold their hand and repeat the words in and out as you sew together

Cheap and great for development in a number of ways, Enjoy.

Photo-a-day 2013 : Day 2

Photo-a-Day Project: A personal project that I undertake in January for an entire month taking one photo a day of my family.

Last January during my photo a day project, I happened  to capture the very last time Lily came into our bed to sleep with us during the night. It was like something had flipped a switch and that magical time was lost forever. The following month she slept through the night for the first time and has been doing so ever since. As much as I so so so much loved that this meant that I could finally sleep and take back ownership of  more than the two inches of bed, that she would leave for me once she had stretched herself across the majority of the bed, I now look back at this time with wistful yearning.

I do not regret the gentle mothering techniques that allowed her to make these transitions in her own time, I try to remember this as my new little boy wriggles in my arm's resisting sleep with all his might... this time of complete dependence is ever so fleeting.

Photo-a-day 2013 : Day 1

Photo-a-Day Project: A personal project that I undertake in January for an entire month taking one photo a day of my family.

Happiest of new years to you, sweet friends.
It is with such joy that I run open armed into 2013.
As I begin my Photo-a-Day project for the 2nd year in a row,
I began by looking through last years photographs.
Smiling over moments past, Remembering what was forgotten.
Grounded, with a grateful and happy heart that my family will have these wonderful moments to treasure.

This year we have a new addition to our family, Eli , who I am happy to say fits into our family perfectly, filling a void that we never knew was there.

To those who  followed this journey last year, welcome back.
And, more importantly, thank you.
Thank you for sharing your love and for your support.

To my new followers, welcome , I hope you enjoy this insight into my little family  and perhaps are even inspired to document your own family in this way.

My heart is bursting, friends.
The exploration of the ordinary is far more poetic than may first appear.
With breathless excitement, I am so happy to share our January with you.
Happy days to you all.
